Gloucester Cathedral - Monks, Medicine & Mayhem!

Novice Norman invites you to come and learn more about the fascinating world of the monks who used to live here…
A packed programme of family-friendly activities will be taking place in the Cloisters and Chapter House, including the chance to play a medieval board game, create your own healing lip balm and decorate a gingerbread monk to take home with you. There will even be an opportunity to meet a medieval barber surgeon, who would have carried out the important role of looking after monks who were sick or old.

The activities on offer all take inspiration from the five ‘rules’ of St Benedict – prayer, study, work, recreation and hospitality - so that you can see what it was like to be a part of this community centuries ago.
The ‘Monks, Medicine and Mayhem’ activities are all free to take part in, with no booking required, but we are grateful for donations to the Cathedral. The activities will take place between 11am-3pm and you are very welcome to drop in and get stuck in with as much or as little as you like.
